Scholarships and payment plans available for families in need (see below)!

  

Curtain Call's performance classes and workshops are focused in building not only performance skills, but confidence, social skills, presentation skills, creative instincts, teamwork and leadership qualities. We cater to all skill levels whether the raw-beginner or experienced professional and offer a low-pressure environment where students are able to explore and develop creative techniques applicable to any performance situation. Classes range from six to fifteen students and run once a week for eight-week sessions fall, winter and spring. Winter and summer vacation programs are also available.

 

Scholarships are available for families in need. To apply, simply submit a copy of your most recent tax return, a letter of recommendation from a teacher, instructor, mentor or coach who has worked with your child, and a letter from you and/or your child stating why our workshop program may be beneficial to him/her. These items can be submitted to our Education Director Brian J. Bianco by email at brian@curtaincallinc.com, or by fax at 203-322-3656. 100% refund if notified of withdrawal up to 7 days prior to the starting date of the class.

75% refund if notified of withdrawal less than 7 days prior to the starting date of the class.

50% refund if notified of withdrawal prior to the 2nd class date.

NO refunds beyond the 2nd class date.

Music Box Theatre: An Introduction to Musical Theatre (ages 5-7)

This workshop is now FULL. Other options for this age range are Storybook Stages and Little Improv-ers.

Using song and dance as storytelling tools, students will create and perform a small musical for an invited audience on the final class! (All students must be available for June 9.) Natasha Fenster received her BM in Vocal Performance from the University of Oregon. This mother of two also teaches with Music Together in Stamford and Rowayton. She’s performed on the Kweskin Stage in The Wizard of Oz, Legally Blonde, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor DreamcoatNunsense and others, as well as with several other local companies.

Bring fairytales and fables to life on stage! Learn the process of play-acting as you create a storybook performance for an invited audience on the final class! Donnie Moody teaches dramatic arts at Westover Magnet School and has been teaching and directing children for over 25 years, creating his own storybook stage adaptations.

Improvisation builds confidence, develops focus and inspires creative thinking. In this eight week workshop, students will work as a team as they use their creative instincts and imaginations to create scenes and characters on the spot through exciting theatre games, exercises and comedic sketches. Tony Republicano has been an instructor here at Curtain Call since the beginning and is proud to be on the Connecticut Office of the Arts Teaching Artist Roster. He brings a variety of theatre programs to schools and community settings throughout the tri-state area, is on the teaching staff at Yale medical school's Standardized Patient Program and performs social-issue theatre with the mobile Interactive Educational Theatre. He is a member of SAG-AFTRA whose Film credits include The Amazing Spider Man 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Annie. Tony also appears on TV and local stages.

A “triple threat” on Broadway is a performer who can sing, act and move well: music, movement and motivation work together to tell the story. Harness these elements and build strong performance skills as we examine the best of Broadway! Students will perform a showcase of musical numbers, scenes and acting exercises for an invited audience on the final class! (All students must be available for June 11.) Jonathan Cahr has almost two decades of experience in choral arranging for concerts, musicals and his own recordings. His career as an actor and singer spans Broadway, television and national tours. Ruth Lettera is a music and choral instructor whose performance credits span New Jersey, Indiana and Connecticut and who’s participated in several Broadway workshops.

Challenge your creativity by putting on your own show from page to stage! In this eight-week workshop, students will learn the process of creating theatre as they develop characters and a script, complete with musical numbers, that they will perform on the final class! (All students must be available for June 15.) An accomplished director, choreographer and teacher, Shannon-Courtney Denihan’s work has been seen throughout CT, NY, Off-Broadway and internationally. A graduate of Western CT State University, Shannon holds a BA in Communications, Theatre Arts and Vocal Performance, a MA in Education, and has been trained in voice, acting, tap, jazz and musical theatre dance. She’s also performed on several community and professional stages, and has appeared in episodes of Law and Order: SVU, The Jury, ED and The Sopranos.

Much different than acting on the stage, on-camera acting is very intimate and the camera picks up every detail. For continuing  tappers with more than a year and a half tap experience. Designed for actors who are looking to get a “leg up” in dance, this class explores a trademark style of Broadway dance thanks to musicals like 42nd Street, Anything Goes and Crazy For You. Hone and develop your tap technique and fortify your comprehension of tap vocabulary as you work on more advanced steps and combinations. Karen Casagrande was formerly owner Hot Shoes Dance Studio in Ridgefield for nearly 30 years and holds a BFA in Dance from Stephens College. She’s been choreographer and/or lead dancer for such musicals as Robber Bride Groom, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, Man of LaMancha, Kiss Me Kate, Once Upon a Mattress, Anything Goes, Guys and Dolls, My Fair Lady, 1776 and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

Acting in front of a camera comes closer to reality than acting on stage and requires its own, unique set of skills. In this eight-week workshop, you’ll build the basic skills necessary for acting and auditioning for television, film and commercials using actual network and film scripts. Explore how body and facial gestures convey important information to a viewing audience and how the camera lens can become your best friend. You’ll also receive tips for finding agents and booking professional work. Lisa Lelas is a popular CT acting coach and former NY casting director. She’s helped train thousands of actors who’ve attained professional work in TV, film and Broadway. Lisa is a motivational speaker, a performance coach for the Sacred Heart University’s Women’s Skate Team, the film-acting instructor for the annual Moondance International Film Festivals and the founding owner/director of the state’s first TV-acting studio. She’s a well-known author, newspaper/magazine columnist and was the organizing segment host for ABC-TV Channel 8. Lisa was also the creator/host of “Simply Organized” on Cable TV, for which she won an award for best talk show in the northeast by the Alliance for Community Media Foundation. www.LisaLelas.com

Summerstock Creative and Musical Theatre Workshops (ages 11-16)

 SUMMERSTOCK WORKSHOPS are full-day, performance workshop programs. We provide a well-balanced curriculum where students rotate between different instructors (in age appropriate groups) to receive specialized instruction in various theatre arts subjects.

Summerstock Creative Theatre (ages 11-16): June 22 to July 3, 2015; Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 4:30pm. Improvisation, modern acting and Shakespeare. Build performance skills, creative instincts and self-confidence. (Registration: $725) 

Summerstock Musical Theatre (ages 11-16): July 6 to 17, 2015; Monday to Friday 9:30am to 4:30pm. A fun and focused study in voice, movement and acting for musical theatre performance. (Registration: $800)

Students should bring their own lunch and a water bottle to class each day. Each session culminates in a performance showcasing what the students have studied over the two-week session for family and friends.
