Full descriptions and dates are listed below according to age range (ages 5-7, 7-10, 8-11, teens, adults, then summer programs). At the bottom of each workshop description is a link that reads, "Register for [name of workshop]" which will take you to our online form.

 

Curtain Call follows the Stamford Public Schools calendar as to vacation, holiday and weather-related closings. For emergency or weather-related closing information, watch our website, News Channel 12 or tune in to 1400 WSTC.

Refund policy:

100% refund if notified of withdrawal up to 7 days prior to the starting date of the class.

75% refund if notified of withdrawal less than 7 days prior to the starting date of the class.

50% refund if notified of withdrawal prior to the 2nd class date.

NO refunds beyond the 2nd class date.

Music Box Theatre: an Introduction to Musical Theatre (ages 5-7)

Use basic instruments and the magic of song as storytelling tools to create a musical performance for an invited audience on the final class! Natasha Fenster received her BM in Vocal Performance from the University of Oregon and also teaches with Music Together in Fairfield. She’s performed at Curtain Call in Pirates, Nunsense, Joseph…, Legally Blonde and more, as well as with several other local companies.

Donnie Moody teaches dramatic arts at Westover Magnet School and has been teaching and directing children for over 25 years, creating his own storybook stage adaptations.

He’s a member of SAG-AFTRA whose credits include The Amazing Spider Man 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Person of Interest, Blue Bloods, Law and Order: SVU, The Good Wife and The Following. Tony’s also appeared on local stages.

Flex your performance muscles as you explore characters, theatre games, story-telling exercises and develop a showcase performance for an invited audience. An accomplished director, choreographer and teacher, Shannon-Courtney Denihan’s work has been seen throughout CT, NY, Off-Broadway and internationally. A graduate of Western CT State University, Shannon holds a BA in Communications, Theatre Arts and Vocal Performance, a MA in Education, and has been trained in voice, acting, tap, jazz and musical theatre dance. She’s also performed on several community and professional stages, and has appeared in episodes of Law and Order: SVU, The Jury, ED and The Sopranos.

Musical Theatre performers sing, act and move well: music, movement and motivation work together to tell the story. Harness these elements and build strong performance skills as we examine the best of Broadway! Jonathan Cahr has almost two decades of experience in choral arranging for concerts, musicals and his own recordings. His career as an actor and singer spans Broadway, television and national tours. Ruth Lettera is a music and choral instructor whose performance credits span New Jersey, Indiana and Connecticut and who’s participated in several Broadway workshops.

An accomplished director, choreographer and teacher, Shannon-Courtney Denihan’s work has been seen throughout CT, NY, Off-Broadway and internationally. A graduate of Western CT State University, Shannon holds a BA in Communications, Theatre Arts and Vocal Performance, a MA in Education, and has been trained in voice, acting, tap, jazz and musical theatre dance. Her choreography has received several award nominations, and in 2011 she received the award for Outstanding Choreography of a Musical from the CT High School Musical Theatre Awards for 42nd Street. She currently teaches with Hot Shoes Dance Studio in Ridgefield, and has also taught with Ridgefield High School, Westport Dance Center, Seven Angels Theatre and Curtain Call.

This class will first break down inhibitions, inspire creative instincts and invoke trust through unscripted theatre games and exercises. Then, the class will move on to scene acting for film and television, drawing upon the confidence developed in the beginning weeks. This class will first focus on musical theatre performance, exploring voice, choreography and acting. The class will then move on to Shakespeare, calling upon the skills developed in the beginning weeks to find the musicality and rhythm within the Bard’s language. Rachel Schulte is a graduate of Emerson College and has studied with the Lee Strasberg Institute, Circle in the Square, Walnut Hill School for the Arts, Stamford Theatre Works and of course, Curtain Call. She also teaches with Kidville.

Between the Lines: Scene Study for Adults

Make deep examination into scenes and monologues, and explore how to select the right piece for you. Center your mind and movement as you connect to characters and text. Unlock clues in the writing that inform you of character objectives, obstacles, situations, relationships, scene structure and rhythm. Kathleen Mahan teaches acting and improvisation with Connecticut’s Performing Arts Programs and is an Artist in Residence in Pelham, NY, staging annual musicals for the school district’s Cultural Arts program.  She coaches adults and young performers in musical theatre, monologues and audition preparation. A member of Actors’ Equity, she studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and arts administration at Purchase College.

Summerstock Creative Theatre and Musical Theatre (ages 11 to 16)

Summerstock is a full-day curriculum for ages 11 to 16 where students work in age-appropriate groups receiving specialized instruction in theatre arts. Students should bring a lunch, dress comfortably and wear the appropriate footwear: no sandals flip-flops or open-toed shoes. Each session culminates in a showcase performance the evening of the final date for an invited audience.

 

Summerstock Creative Theatre: for ages 11 to 16

June 23 to July 3, 2014; Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 4:30pm

An intense exploration of modern acting, Shakespeare and improv. Students rotate among our instructors in age-appropriate groups and the session culminates in a performance showcase July 3 in the evening. Registration: $725
